Audition Information

Become part of our world!

Upon A Dream is thrilled to be holding our first ever public audition.  It will be held in-person on Saturday, October 30th from 1-3pm. Auditions will be held at Johnson County Arts & Heritage center in Rehearsal Studio B, and will be done by appointment only. Contact us to request an audition time slot. All ethnicities encouraged to attend. At this time, roles are female-presenting.

Requirements

Every candidate must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of the audition. At this time, there is no upper age limit. However, candidates must be able to convincingly play characters who are in their teens and early twenties. The ideal candidate would have:

  • Previous experience working with children, especially Preschool, Kindergarten, and/or lower Elementary

  • Experience in performing arts, especially live theatre

  • Strong improvisational skills

  • Ongoing vocal training

  • A lot of patience, a team-player attitude, and a fun-loving personality

  • Weekend availability

  • Reliable transportation

We do not have specific size requirements, though we prefer to cast performers who are between 5'3" and 5'9". Most of our current costumes are adjustable and can fit a range of sizes. All cast members are required to sing.

What should I bring?

As with any audition, it's important to be prepared! Please bring a headshot (4x6 print). Headshots do not necessarily need to be professional, but they should be current, unfiltered, and show your face clearly. If you have a work or acting resume, we encourage you to bring a copy. Finally, we will ask you to fill out an audition form. We will provide these in advance, so you may print it at home and fill it out ahead of time if you like. We will have additional copies on site, if you prefer to fill it out when you arrive.  We are providing 5 audition cuts for you to choose from. You only need to prepare one Cut. Audition forms, Cuts, and other information will be posted

What can I expect?

Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your time slot is scheduled to start. This will give you time to find the audition room, check in, fill out an audition form, etc. There will be a check-in table outside the audition room. You will be assigned an audition number at this time.

When you are asked to enter the studio, you may take a seat while you wait. The singing portion of the audition will proceed in numerical order, according to the numbers you were assigned at the check-in table.  When it is your turn, stand up, introduce yourself, and let us know what you will be singing. While we are providing a variety of Cuts, please note that you only need to choose one. Cuts should be memorized. We will provide instrumental tracks (you will have the opportunity to practice to them in advance). A Cappella singing will not be allowed.

After the vocal portion of the audition, we may ask some people to stay for an improvisational portion. If we need to see or hear more from you, we will follow up with an email.
